Young swimmers showcased their artistry and talent at the Novice Competition and the CGA Artistic Swimming Championships.

Team Phoenix Syncro hosted the Team Phoenix Novice Competition and the CGA Artistic Swimming Championships at Reddam House Helderfontein on April 12.
Team Phoenix Synchro is an artistic swimming training centre that provides young swimmers with coaches and training sessions to guide them and strengthen their skills.

The event began with a practice session on April 11, during which the young swimmers practised their routines and learnt the rules of both competitions.

“The lack of coaching and knowledge of the sport has made me become a part of the judges because I think to make the sport seen and heard of, a lot of us parents need to be involved and invested in it.”

The event brought together young swimmers to compete in figures, solos and duets.

She expressed how she appreciates these competitions.

“Being a part of these competitions feels really good as it revives the sport because it feels like it is dying a bit. I feel like we should work on it being more out there, like making it a school sport, because it teaches skills and discipline that are needed when you are young,” said Malan

The competitions ended with a prize-giving ceremony, celebrating the swimmers’ achievements and hard work.

Team Phoenix Synchro also expressed appreciation to the athletes, coaches, spectators and families for being a part of the competition.
