BIC brings learning inspiration to Ponelopele Oracle Secondary School
Learners were treated to a fun, educational, and inspirational roadshow by BIC, which really got them excited to put pen to paper and learn.
An interactive roadshow, courtesy of BIC, gave learners at Ponelopele Oracle Secondary School the chance, not only to learn the importance of education, but also to take part in the Let your full school story out competition, where they got the opportunity to tell their own stories.
The roadshow aimed to further emphasise BIC’s commitment to supporting education of learners across the country. BIC donated stationery to the school before giving the learners the opportunity to enter the Let your full school story out competition, requiring learners to tell their own stories in any language, with the top 15 learners receiving learnerships from the Skills Development Corporation.

BIC marketing manager Amy Whittam spoke on why BIC decided to do the roadshow at Ponelopele. “We felt the need to do the roadshow and bring the Let your full school story out competition to the school, because we felt like we wanted to encourage and motivate learners that they do have it in them to do good, and that we are here to support them.
“We also understand some of the challenges they face in school and it’s something as simple as having a pen and putting it to paper that will allow them to get to the end of their school journey.”

During the roadshow, learners were also shown what education can do for one, even through the different backgrounds, through a play that was done by the BIC members. The play demonstrated four different situations involving peer pressure, poverty, bad decisions, and good decisions, which are situations young learners are usually faced with during their high school years.
Learners also got the opportunity to take part in some of the interactive activities. One of them including a quiz on the plays they had just watched, allowing three learners to walk away with packages from BIC.
The marketing officer of the Skills Development Corporation, Lindokuhle Ndlovu, explained why they decided to partner with BIC on this initiative. “We saw this synergy that we have with BIC in wanting to better the lives of young people, especially learners. That is how we came together and partnered in this beautiful initiative.”

The principal of the school, Tinyiko Mkhabela, expressed how he feels about learners participating in the competition. “I hope all our learners are going to participate in the competition, especially after seeing the plays and last year’s winners of the competition, because I think our learners do have stories to tell, since our school is from a disadvantaged community.”
The roadshow left learners at the school feeling excited and inspired to enter the competition.
