JMPD officer Cedrick Molokomme laid to rest in emotional semi-military funeral
JMPD, together with grieving family members and community representatives, bid a solemn farewell to officer Cedrick Molokomme, who was laid to rest after being fatally shot while off-duty in Rabie Ridge.
Slain JMPD officer Cedrick Molokomme has been laid to rest following a solemn semi-military funeral service held in his honour at the Clayville Recreation Centre on May 2.
The service brought together JMPD Chief of Police Commissioner Patrick Jaca, senior management, colleagues, community members, and family, all gathered to pay their final respects to the fallen officer whose life was cut short in a tragic shooting incident in Rabie Ridge.

Jaca officially declared the funeral a semi-military service, recognising Molokomme’s dedication, discipline, and contribution to law enforcement in the city. The gesture reflected the department’s respect for his service and the circumstances surrounding his death.
During the emotional ceremony, colleagues and community representatives reflected on Molokomme’s character, describing him as a respectful, humble, and committed officer who served with integrity.
Tributes were also delivered by Ward 110 councillor Angie Mphaho and South African Municipal Workers’ Union representative Nathi Madikane.
Madikane remembered Molokomme as a unifying figure in his personal and professional life.
“Cedrick was a deeply humble man, both within his family and as a respected leader in his political association. He carried himself with a warm spirit that brought people together, always promoting unity, understanding and mutual respect,” he said.
Speakers at the funeral highlighted his quiet strength, kindness, and professionalism, noting the lasting impact he had on colleagues and the wider community.

Molokomme was fatally shot on April 25 in Rabie Ridge while off-duty and visiting family. According to JMPD, he was caught in crossfire after unknown gunmen opened fire on another individual nearby.
As the suspects fled, they allegedly discharged shots indiscriminately, striking Molokomme in the neck. He was declared dead at the scene.
Police have opened a murder case, and investigations are ongoing. JMPD has pledged full cooperation with law enforcement to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
In the days leading up to the funeral, JMPD and city leadership also held a memorial on April 30, which included a drive-past motorcade through Rabie Ridge.
Colleagues joined the Molokomme family in a show of solidarity, while a formal memorial service at the JMPD Old Academy Hall honoured his life and service.
