“We felt the need to do the roadshow and bring the Let Your Full School Story Out competition to the school because we felt like we wanted to encourage and motivate learners that they do have it in them to do good and that we are here to support them.
“We also understand some of the challenges they face in school, and it’s something as simple as having a pen and putting it to paper that will allow them to get to the end of their school journey.”

The roadshow also featured previous winners of the competition. Curro Sagewood learner, and last year’s winner, Elisa Mafamane expresses how she felt after winning the Write My Story competition. “I was so shocked and excited because I got an opportunity to win something and I don’t think I have ever experienced something like that.”
During the roadshow learners were also shown what education can do through a play performed by the BIC members.
The play demonstrated four different situations involving peer pressure, poverty, bad decisions, and good decisions, which are situations young learners are usually faced with during their high school years, bringing relatability to the learners.

Learners also got the opportunity to take part in some of the interactive activities, one of which included a quiz on the plays they had just watched. Three learners walked away with packages from BIC.
Marketing officer of the Skills Development Corporation Lindokuhle Ndlovu explained why they decided to partner with BIC on this initiative.
“We saw this synergy that we have with BIC in wanting to better the lives of young people, especially learners. That is how we came together and partnered in this beautiful initiative.”

The principal of the school, Tinyiko Mkhabela, expressed how he feels about learners participating in the competition.
“I hope all our learners are going to participate in the competition, especially after seeing the plays and last year’s winners, because I think our learners do have stories to tell, since our school is from a disadvantaged community.”
Learners left the roadshow to their classes feeling motivated and inspired to do good.
