Mini-Olympics day brings fun and teamwork for Grade R learners
The mini-Olympics day served as a day of fun and engagement between learners, teachers, and parents.
Blue Hills Preparatory hosted a mini-Olympics day, inviting Childsol Crèche and Pre-School to have fun and interact with their Grade R learners.
The Grade R learners took part in activities such as sprinting, ball snatching, Hula Hoop skip racing, bean bag fetching, and Hula Hoop step racing.

The purpose of the event was to give learners the opportunity to engage with one another and to build up their social skills as part of the learning programmes.
Blue Hills Preparatory principal Lizette Baker said it was an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the two schools, and also to give the Grade R learners exposure to competing, because there aren’t many platforms for younger children to compete against other schools.

She also added that it was a way to bring the learners a day of engagement and fun outside.
Parents from Childsol also got the opportunity to see a school where they can take their little ones for their Grade 1.
One of the parents, Michael Phaswana, who attended the mini-Olympics, expressed how anxious he was about his little one participating in the Olympics.

“Well, my biggest expectation, and fear, was that my child wasn’t going to integrate well with other learners and teachers.

Are they are going to understand each other? And are the teachers going to handle our kids well? So far, I’m happy with how the teachers have been handling our kids, from a parent’s perspective.”
The day ended on a good note with smiles on the learners’ faces and more learners saying they would love to come back and have another fun event at the school.
