Kanana triple murder case ends with suspect suicide
The manhunt, which began in Kanana Ext 4, concluded near Akasia, when the triple murder suspect allegedly shot himself during a police interception.
A whole-day manhunt, linked to a deadly triple murder in Kanana, has ended with the suspect allegedly taking his own life.
Police confirmed that the 38-year-old suspect died on April 17 near Akasia, shortly after being tracked by law enforcement following the early morning shooting in Kanana Ext 4.
Authorities said the incident began just after 06:00, when officers from Rabie Ridge responded to reports of multiple shootings at a residential property.

According to Ekurhuleni District police spokesperson Captain Nelda Sekgobela, the suspect, a security guard armed with a licensed firearm, allegedly went to his girlfriend’s home, where an argument broke out.
“The duo had an argument, and the security officer shot and killed his 37-year-old girlfriend. On his way out of the house, he shot and killed the girlfriend’s uncle and also shot and killed a neighbour.”
Additionally, the girlfriend’s aunt was shot in the lower body and was taken to the hospital. Following the incident, the suspect allegedly took the couple’s eight-year-old child and fled the scene, triggering a large-scale manhunt.
“Upon responding to the scene, the police also came under fire, leading to two other women sustaining gunshot injuries. A police officer was injured by shattered glass from the police vehicle that was shot at.
The two women and the officer are receiving medical treatment in hospital while the first three victims were declared dead.”

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the suspect attempted to evade arrest by switching vehicles during his escape. “It is reported that, after he fled the scene, he abandoned and burned the vehicle he used between Ivory Park and Tembisa.
“He then hijacked an Avanza vehicle, of which the driver activated Tracker. The car was tracked to N14 near Aksia, and when the K9 unit and Tracker members tried to stop him, he reportedly shot himself.”
Police have since opened an additional case of hijacking as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities also confirmed that the eight-year-old child, who was taken during the incident, has been found safe and unharmed.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the shootings, as well as the full sequence of events, are continuing.
