New youth development centre opens doors to opportunities in Mayibuye

Unemployed youth and school learners now have a place to connect, learn, and grow after the Mayibuye Youth Activism Movement received a fully equipped development centre from Atlas Plant Hire.

Youth development in Mayibuye received a major boost on Youth Day as the Mayibuye Youth Activism Movement unveiled a new youth development centre, made possible through donations from Atlas Plant Hire and its partners.

The centre, housed in a donated office container opposite Maphutha Secondary School, was officially handed over on June 16, and is expected to serve as a hub for learning, skills development, and community support.

Movement secretary Thapelo Nkoane said the facility would create opportunities for unemployed youth and learners who often struggle to access online resources. “The centre will serve as a youth development hub where unemployed young people can access free Wi-Fi to apply for jobs and complete homework and school projects.”

He added that the movement will also assist Grade 12 learners with university and bursary applications. “We will also use the centre as a social support space, where community members can receive assistance with some of the socioeconomic challenges they face daily.”

Nkoane expressed gratitude to Atlas Plant Hire, FHS, Evercomm, and other partners for their contribution to the community. Atlas Plant Hire representative Angelo Desai said the donation aligns with the company’s commitment to empowering young people and supporting community development.

“Providing a dedicated youth development centre creates a space for training, leadership development, skills-building activities, and community projects. It gives young people the opportunity to learn, collaborate, and develop skills that can help them create positive change in their communities.”
He explained that the donated resources would provide a fully functional workspace where youth can access digital tools, educational opportunities, and online resources.

Desai said Atlas Plant Hire remains committed to supporting the Mayibuye Youth Community through future projects and partnerships aimed at creating opportunities for growth and development.

The company also acknowledged the support of its partners, including FHS, Auto Comms and Control, Evercomm, and Gryston Fruit and Veg, for helping make the project a reality. “Together, we are helping to build a brighter future for the next generation and creating opportunities for the community to thrive.”
