New Jerusalem Children’s Home seeks paving support

The children's home in President Park is calling on residents and businesses to help create a safer, cleaner walkway for its learners.

Harsh conditions caused by an unpaved walkway has prompted New Jerusalem Children’s Home to seek assistance from community members.

The home is asking for support from residents, businesses, and donors to pave the front yard outside its administration building.

An area that serves as the main walkway for children travelling between the residential home and Lanto Montessori, which is the house’s on-site learning facility.

During rainy weather, the pathway becomes muddy and slippery, making the daily journey to class both difficult and unsafe for learners.

Marketing manager Hopkins Kaira said the project is about more than improving the appearance of the property; it is about protecting the children and making their everyday lives easier.

“It is heartbreaking to watch children walk to school through mud, arriving with wet and dirty shoes and socks. The slippery conditions also increase the risk of them falling. Paving this area will provide a safer, cleaner route and make a real difference, especially during the rainy season.”

Kaira also added that the upgrade will benefit teachers, staff members, and visitors, by creating a more accessible environment.

In addition, the paved space will give children a cleaner outdoor area, where they can move around freely and safely while taking part in school and recreational activities.

While the children’s home has received valuable support from donors over the years, Kaira said there is still work to be done to improve the facility and provide the children with the best possible environment.

The home invites regular individuals, companies, and organisations to contribute in any way they can. If members of the community still wish to donate items, such as winter clothes, books, and food, they are more than welcomed to still do so.

Donations of paving materials, financial contributions, or assistance with labour are all welcomed and will help bring the project to life.

Kaira believes that every acts of generosity, regardless of value, will have a lasting impact on the children who call New Jerusalem Children’s Home their home.
