Mandela Day brings colourful change to New Jerusalem Children’s Home
The walls of New Jerusalem Children's Home get a splash of paint as Balwin Properties and Stevenson Paint spent their 67 minutes painting for Mandela Day.
A fresh coat of paint and the spirit of giving came together as Balwin Properties and Stevenson Paint spent Mandela Day giving back to the children of New Jerusalem Children’s Home.
In honour of the day, volunteers from the two companies dedicated their 67 minutes and more to repainting sections of the children’s home, including the front of the administration building, helping to create a cleaner and brighter environment for the children of New Jerusalem.

With paintbrushes, rollers and a lot of excitement, the volunteers worked side by side to renew the home’s walls, showing how small acts of kindness can make a lasting difference.
The initiative formed part of Mandela Day celebrations, which annually encourage individuals and organisations to dedicate their time to helping others and strengthening communities.
Beyond giving the home a new look, the painting project symbolised hope, care and a shared commitment to creating a safe and uplifting space where children can grow and thrive.
New Jerusalem Children’s Home solutions manager, Moetapele Phalafala, said it was an honour for the home that people continued to think of coming there to do some good for Mandela Day.

The partnership between Balwin Properties and Stevenson Paint highlighted the impact that collaboration can have when businesses come together in service of the community.
Ryan Kalk from Balwin Properties’ Beyond Bricks Foundation expressed the importance of being at the home for Mandela Day.
“We are just trying to brighten up the lives of the kids that live here at the home, and, I mean, one of our staff members actually comes directly from the home, so this is our connection.”
The two companies were also joined by television personality Boity Thulo, who came to help paint and spend her 67 minutes with the children at the home.
For the children of New Jerusalem Children’s Home, the newly painted walls will serve as a lasting reminder that they are supported by a community that cares about their well-being and future.
