Readers speak out

MIDRAND - Midrand Reporter's readers had their say on www.midrandreporter.co.za and looklocal's BBM.

On the story ‘Carissa shines at Aquatic champs’,

Cate Arenstein writes: Congrats Liezel! I am so happy for the success of Carissa. Very very exciting stuff!

Samson Kwindingwi writes: Congratulations Liezel! I was just thinking about where she is gonna be when she reaches 18 years, most likely a global swimming champion! This is impressive… well done Carissa… continue breaking those records!

Fadzai Zaranyika writes: Wow, that’s great. She is a star. May God continue to bless her.

Roger Finch writes: Really nice to see, Matt, thanks for doing a great job to get her to achieve the time that she wanted.

On the story, ‘Sisters with Blisters walk against abuse’,

Elize writes: Good day, the event itself was enjoyable, although the organisation was not the same as in 2010 and 2011. We as a team already paid and registered on 1 August, but there were not enough goody bags, not that we mind, but if you have an event like this and you have already paid in advance, why not keep their entry goodies?

On the story, ‘Sewer line assessment released for comment’,

Kelvin Price writes: Sewer line for the area is definitely needed. Septic tank systems have a nasty habit of clogging up and overflowing, which in turn pollutes the groundwater.

On the story, ‘Alternative routes to e-tolls clogged’,

Yvi writes: [The e-tolls caused me to get] home late. The government is bullying us. To all the ANC voters: you are being suppressed in a new manner – by dumping you into poverty through new schemes like the e-tolls. Wake Up. I live 2km from work. I left work at 6pm, got home just before 7pm. It was Dale Road with the K101 crossing [that was congested]. Apparently West Road was also a nightmare [due to the launch of e-tolls on the highways]. The taxis are taking more of a chance and it was chaos.

On ‘Going to pay respects to Mandela at the Union Buildings’,

Priscilla Starr writes: And so we went to Fountain’s Valley Park and Ride to go to the Union Buildings to say our last goodbye to Madiba; we were under the first 100 at 4.30am. However, at 6.30am the queue had already built up to over 2000 people, when police officers came, informing us the pick ups from Fountain’s Valley Park and Ride had been cancelled and we must go to another venue. We asked why and were not given a reason. We were also informed that there were already thousands of people queuing at the Pretoria sports ground. It’s so disappointing that there is no order. What next?

On the story ‘Sewage’ flows freely for close to a year’,

kimst gp writes: Yes it is true that leak is there [and has been running for] over a year. They have tried to fix it but it doesn’t seem to be shoddy workmanship. One of these days, there is going to be a water crises or shortage in Midrand, then they will say that they didn’t know. Really, how can you allow water to leak for one year then say you are working on it [now]?

On the story, ‘Madiba memorial spirals into embarrassment’,

Aja Ramchuran writes: It’s time Zuma knew how South Africa feels. In front of world leaders is the best. Why stay local…

On ‘Mandela laid to rest’,

Tebogo_nova writes: Dignified I suppose – very emotional as the realisation of his death takes its final stage. But overall very moving.

On ‘Midrand 5 driver gets 12 years’,

Avi Ramdhani writes: It’s the Lord’s job not to judge, but if you ask me, this guy got away with murder – five murders.

Dj D!nk!e D!mples writes: A 12-year sentence is better than nothing but they should have given him some sentence that will teach him a lesson that he will never ever forget.

Flower writes: This sentence is not fair, he [was] supposed to get a times 12 [year sentence] again, because … he was driving on the wrong side of the road.

Sunshine Potso writes: Five people dead and he only gets 12 years? Ridiculous!

CJ writes: Like the idea that the licence is cancelled. Hope it’s for life.

Geoffrey writes: No comment.

Kabelo Loliwe writes: He deserves life in prison.
