Vossies FC eases past Ma-Africa in Safa Regional League

This decisive victory positions Vossies comfortably in the top eight, which is notably impressive for their debut season in the regional league.

Vossies FC (Eduvos) triumphed over Ma-Africa in a resounding 4–0 victory during the Safa Johannesburg Hollywoodbets Regional League Yellow Stream encounter, held at the Alex Safe Hub on March 23.

This match showcased Vossies’ offensive strength and tactical control, marking a significant achievement in their debut season in the regional league.

Olwam Ndabana was a standout player, scoring two goals, while Reabetswe Motsaathebe and Piwokuhle Khumalo each added one. This decisive win propelled Vossies comfortably into the top eight of the league.

From the start, Vossies controlled the match with superior possession. Kabelo Magale was the first to threaten, registering a shot on target, while Tinyiko Nkosi’s attempt was blocked by Ma-Africa goalkeeper Andani Rambau. Ma-Africa quickly found themselves on the defensive, with Magale creating multiple chances.

As the home team, Ma-Africa needed to respond. Fhulufhedzani Mukatuni managed to generate a chance, but his shot was saved by Vossies goalkeeper Simphiwe Mcetywa, resulting in a corner. Despite their efforts, Ma-Africa struggled to find their rhythm as Vossies kept pushing. Ndabana narrowly missed a chance, Magale shot wide, and Oratile Molekwa’s header went over.

Ma-Africa had a glimmer of hope when Thapelo Mofokeng found himself one-on-one with Mcetywa, but the keeper made a crucial save. Ndabana remained a constant threat, while Ma-Africa’s Baldwin Nemalele failed to convert a chance before halftime.

In the second half, Vossies maintained pressure. Motsaathebe’s shot was saved, and Masiakwala’s header went straight to Rambau, followed by another effort from Ndabana that went over the bar. Ndabana eventually broke the deadlock with a well-executed free kick after a foul by Ma-Africa’s Murangi Bebeda.

Desperate for an equaliser, Ma-Africa pushed forward, but Tumisho Matsemela’s shot sailed over the crossbar. Vossies continued to create opportunities, with Magale shooting wide again.

Strategically, Vossies made substitutions, bringing on Khumalo and Zwelihle Kwela for Magale and Masiakwala, while Ma-Africa swapped Lebogang Madisha for Malose Putuka. Substitute Khumalo quickly impacted the game, scoring the second goal after skillfully dribbling past Rambau.

Following Khumalo’s goal, Motsaathebe added a third with a low shot, and Ndabana capped his performance with his second goal around the 80th minute. Khumalo missed a chance to expand the scoreline further.

Looking ahead, Ma-Africa will face United Stars on March 29 in an important Alex derby at the Alexandra Stadium. Meanwhile, Vossies will host Gomtown Boyz at Eduvos Midrand, as they continue their impressive debut season.
