Midrand Shotokan Karate Club’s year of achievements culminates in holiday cheer
Coach Dalson Seanego thanks athletes, parents, volunteers, and sponsors for a standout 2025 while inviting everyone to train with MSK in 2026.
Midrand Shotokan Karate (MSK) is closing out the year on a high note, reflecting on a season packed with growth, standout performances, and strong community support that made 2025 one of the club’s most memorable yet.
Throughout the year, MSK athletes represented the club with pride at various competitions. A major highlight was the Johannesburg Karate Federation development tournament held on August 9, where athletes delivered impressive performances that stood out among emerging young karateka.

September brought one of the club’s biggest milestones: the annual Gold Karate Tournament, hosted on September 6 at the Marlboro Community Hall. The event drew clubs and university teams from across the country, creating a vibrant and competitive atmosphere. Head coach Dalson Seanego said the tournament exceeded expectations. “Even the critics admitted they had attended the best tournament of the year,” he said, reflecting on the event’s success.
MSK wrapped up its calendar with grading examinations on October 25, marking another step forward for athletes who have been training consistently for over a year. Many of these members will now move into regional and provincial development divisions, an important pathway toward competing at the elite level.

The club itself has grown significantly, expanding from a single dojo to three active branches in Marlboro, Turffontein, and the Honbu Dojo in Midrand. Seanego expressed deep gratitude to the parents, supporters, and partners who have helped MSK reach new heights.

“Appreciation to all the parents who continuously support their children by bringing them to lessons and to competitions,” he said. “And thank you to the Midrand Reporter for being there to highlight our achievements and celebrate our young athletes.”
He also extended thanks to corporate sponsors, volunteers, and SABC Sport for backing MSK’s events. “Most importantly, appreciation goes to the athletes who put in the time and effort at every training session. Their growth is what makes me proud.”
As the festive season begins, MSK wishes all its members, families, partners, and friends a blessed Christmas and a powerful start to 2026.
“Eat, drink, and be merry, but remember to exercise,” Seanego added. “We’re coming out of the blocks sprinting. If you’re making a New Year’s resolution, let it be to train with Midrand Shotokan Karate in 2026.”
