Midrand Striders lead training activation for Wings for Life

In preparation for the Wings for Life race, Midrand Striders continue to create awareness and build up excitement for the global race.

Leading up to the global charity run, the Midrand Striders dedicated their weekly Tuesday training sessions to host an activation for the Wings for Life race.

The purpose of the activation was to educate and raise awareness about Wings for Life, while encouraging more participants to join the official global race.

The initiative also highlighted that 100% of entry fees and donations go directly to spinal cord research.

The charity race will take place on May 10 in Pretoria, with runners from around the world participating.

What made this training run different was that, instead of the usual time trial, some members acted as ‘catchers’ – chasing other runners along the route.

This mirrored the format of the Wings for Life race, where participants must stay ahead of the catcher car.

Chairperson of the Midrand Striders, Tsenoli Tiheli, said the training session stood out from their usual routines.

“It turned out to be a lot of fun, but also more challenging than expected,” he said.

According to Tiheli, many runners were pushed to pace themselves better than in regular sessions, with some achieving personal bests.
