Midrand’s very own Josh Middelton drops his second album, ‘A Mild Case of Insomnia’
MIDRAND – Josh Middleton, SA born and a Midrander has recenlty dropped his new body of work which is meant to challenge the norms.
Midrand’s very own Josh Middleton has dropped his second album, A Mild Case of Insomnia.
Following up from his first album, Middleton released his second album on 23 October.
He described his latest album as being a twist of soul and acoustic sounds, but more importantly, an expression of who he is.
The 18-year-old singer and songwriter said that he started singing when he was six years old and he released his first album when he was just 15 years old.
“I have been influenced by a lot of RnB and soul music. Thus, I try and create music that is extremely relatable to other people. My new album was inspired by the likes of Lewis Capaldi and John Legend. I think that the entire project has just been about being relatable.
“When I started writing this project I kind of had this idea in my head, the music I was trying to find and listen to just on a daily basis, was a struggle to find. Therefore, the stories that I was looking to find, I ended up writing about them.
“In my first album, although I was inspired by RnB and soul – I used to listen to Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin and Christina Aguilera. What ended up happening was that I created this body of work which was electronic pop and I was 15 years old at the time.
“I think it was great, I learned a lot from that and worked with talented people, but, I never actually got to find my sound. I think with A Mild Case of Insomnia it is all about being true to myself and finding my sound so that I can create a body of work that is Josh Middleton.”
Middleton added that he hopes people take a lot from his new album. “I hope it can help a lot of people through life, but I also hope that it inspires other artists and young people, that you don’t have to conform to the norm.
He concluded that people will say you are too young or old for whatever it is you want to do. “You do not have enough experience, you are not good enough, but that is not true, you can work hard and achieve whatever it is you want to.”
Josh Middleton’s album titled, A Mild Case of Insomnia, can be found on all digital platforms.
