A new rising star in Midrand

MIDRAND – Sandile Mathe, known as DJ Masandi promises to deliver more music as he works on his craft.

Sandile Mathe, better known as DJ Masandi, is a rising star in Midrand.

Mathe said that he started deejaying at a very young age and would practise using a DJ software together with his younger brother. This created more interest and a passion for music within him.

In 2009, Mathe started visiting clubs to ask the owners for an opportuning to play his music. He got his first lucky break at Base in Johannesburg when he asked the resident DJ if he could play his music for a few minutes.

“He agreed, I guess he was tired, so I played. But what I did not expect was for the manager of the club to be listening to me play. The following day he called me to ask if I could come again and play, and the rest is history,” he said.

Today, this Midrand-based DJ can travel around the nation offering a sound he deems unique. Although he has offered his services to clubs around the country, he makes sure he still plays at local lounges in Midrand.

Even though Covid- 19 has made things difficult in the industry, Mathe is currently working on perfecting his skills in music production. “Producing is something I started recently. I have also released a track titled, Mdrazana (which means woman), featuring Pholas and Chuck Bass.”

He concluded that he looks forward to enhancing his skills and working with other producers.
