Midrand musician back in studio with new music and upcoming EP

Midrand’s multitalented creative JBee Forest’s new single Amagama Amathathu, marks a soulful return and offers a glimpse into his upcoming EP, Bonga Impilo.

After a period of relative quiet on the music scene, Midrand musician and creative Jabulani ‘JBee Forest’ Hlathi is making a return with a brand-new single set to drop on March 16.

Known for experimenting with different musical styles, JBee Forest previously explored genres such as amapiano. However, his upcoming single, Amagama Amathathu, which translates to: Three words, takes a different direction, leaning into a soulful Afro-soul sound.

The single will serve as a preview of his upcoming extended play (EP), Bonga Impilo, which is 90% done and expected to be released later in March.

JBee Forest is a multitalented South African musician who has also built a career as an actor, journalist, and entrepreneur. According to the artist, his absence from the music spotlight was due to a focus on other aspects of his career. “I wouldn’t say I’ve been quiet. I’ve actually been very busy behind the scenes. I’ve been focusing on growing my business, the TheForest brand, and expanding my journey in acting.”

Despite his other ventures, he said music has always remained close to his heart. “But music has always been my first love.

“I felt that the timing was finally right to return with something fresh and meaningful. This time, I wanted to step outside the amapiano sound and explore Afro-soul. The music I’m releasing now is more spiritual, more mature, and reflects my personal growth as an artist and as a person.”

The single, Amagama Amathathu, is described as a heartfelt love song about expressing love honestly and deeply. “It’s a heartfelt Afro-soul love song about the power of expressing love honestly and deeply. I actually wrote the song on Valentine’s Day, which makes it even more special. It speaks to people who truly believe in love and meaningful connections.”

His upcoming EP carries a message of gratitude and reflection. “This project is very personal and meaningful to me.

“The EP is titled Bonga Impilo, which means: Give thanks for life. It’s a project centred around gratitude, especially gratitude to God for life, growth, and the journey I’ve been on.”

Musically, the project blends Afro-soul with elements of Afro-pop to create what the artist describes as a soulful yet uplifting sound. He collaborated with several artists and producers, including Glemah, En-Jay Daking, and vocalist Palesa M.
