Thabethe said the launch of Whimsy opened new doors for her as a young designer. The collection was showcased at Fashion Without Borders 2026 at Johannesburg’s Sandton City, where it received attention for its thoughtful design and inclusive approach. She said this year has marked a turning point in her career as she regained her confidence and returned to her craft with renewed purpose.
“For me, the exhibition represents another important milestone in a journey that began in Mpakeni and continues to unfold on larger stages,” she said.

She described her journey as one of determination and growth, although it has not been without challenges. Prior to releasing her latest collection, Thabethe said she experienced an artistic block that lasted three years, preventing her from fully expressing her creativity.

The Mpakeni-born artist completed her matric at Chief Charles Secondary School before pursuing her passion for art and design. Her academic journey began at Xela Design College, where she obtained her first qualification. Determined to further her skills and knowledge, she continued her studies at the Vaal University of Technology where she is currently in her final year.
