Mpumalanga DoE commences with 2026 winter classes
The Mpumalanga Department of Education officially started with the 2026 winter classes.
The Mpumalanga Department of Education (DoE) officially commenced winter classes on Monday. Extra lessons will take place in 89 learning centres throughout the province and will run until July 27. The primary objective is to strengthen learners’ understanding of challenging curriculum content, enhance examination techniques and study methods, and increase the province’s overall pass rate.

According to the DoE, classes will be facilitated by high-performing teachers with proven track records in exceptional learner outcomes.
Lessons will focus on high-enrolment and gateway subjects: English first additional language, accounting, economics, geography, history, mathematical literacy, physical sciences, life sciences, and agricultural science.

To ensure that learners are able to participate fully, the DoE has committed to providing transportation and school nutrition.
The department called on school governing bodies to collaborate effectively with their learning institutions, and to encourage parents and guardians to ensure that learners attend all classes.

In her 2026 policy and budget speech, MEC for education, Lindi Masina, reaffirmed the department’s commitment to academic excellence.
“Improving learner performance remains at the heart of our mandate. Our target is to achieve a 91% pass rate across the board, with significant improvements in science, technology, engineering and mathematics,” she said.
