Mpumalanga Department of Education announces opening of applications for 2027

The Department of Education (DoE) has officially announced the opening of 2027 school admission applications for Grades One and Eight. Applications are open from May 4 to August 31.

The DoE urged parents and guardians to apply on time and to work closely with schools to ensure a smooth and successful admission process for the upconing academic year. Schools are expected to ensure that all the admissions are processed in a fair, and transparent manner, guided by the best interest of a child.

These are some of the documents that are required when applying:
• Affidavit
• Birth certificate
• Identity document
• Proof of residence.

According to the DoE, children without the required documents, including a birth certificate, may not be denied admission.

The department urged school governing bodies and principals to implement admission policies that promote equality, inclusion, effective use of resources and access to quality education for all learners within their communities.

In terms of the South African Schools Act and the Constitution, every child has the right to basic education and no learner may be unfairly discriminated against on the basis of race, gender, language, religion or social status.
