Former police officer granted bail for attempted vehicle theft
The suspect and two other men fled the scene but the owner of the vehicle had already spotted the former police officer.
A former police officer, Loloya Skhumbuzo Mabunda appeared at the Mhala Magistrate’s Court yesterday on charges of attempted vehicle theft, following his arrest on Sunday, February 24.
Information at police disposal revealed that earlier on the same day the suspect and two other men got tried pushing a Toyota Corolla out of someone’s garage, however the owner was awoken by his house alarm that went off.

When he went outside to investigate what had triggered the alarm, he realised they were people in his yard and fired a warning shot. The suspects fled the scene but the owner of the vehicle had already spotted the former cop.
The matter was reported to the police and the suspect was traced and arrested. He was granted R1 000 bail and the case postponed to March 27, 2019, for further investigation.
