Former policeman and clerk arrested for stealing ARVs

One of the suspects, a former cop was dismissed in 2018 for corruption and the other is employed as an administration clerk at Matsulu Clinic.

Two suspects Caleb Bonginkosi Hlatshwayo (33) and Thapelo Sibusiso Magagula (38) appeared in the Matsulu Periodical Court for possession of Antiretroviral Drug (ARVs) last Thursday.

They were arrested after members of  Crime Intelligence and the Tactical Response Team (TRT) received information about two men who were in possession of ARVs, making their way to Kanyamazane for a delivery.

The members responded  and stopped the vehicle fitting the description given around Matsulu Crossing was stopped and searched.  Hlatshwayo is a former cop who was dismissed in 2018 for corruption and Magagula works as an administration clerk at Matsulu Clinic. The total value of the ARV’s is estimated at R34 500.

The suspects were granted  R1 000 bail each and will appear in the same court on October 3.
