Female soldiers celebrate by giving to the needy
Soldiers give back to the less fortunate.
MBOMBELA – The province’s army took the saying “charity begins at home” literally when they donated food parcels, clothing items and swings to the needy.
Army soldiers deployed as far as the Kruger National Park and in neighbouring countries laid down their weapons and changed their uniforms for evening gowns to dress up for a Women’s Day celebration with a special twist.
It was a day filled with happiness all around when the army first made donations to the local Good Hope Centre at Mattafin on Friday August 30.
“This centre has become one of my adopted families in the country. I have had the utmost pleasure working hand in hand with Past Sibusiso Mabuza who runs it and provides children a safe place to call home,” said Brig Gen Bobelo.
She continued, “The army is there to protect the people of this country. I see it suitable for us to assist in any way we can, as a country we will only grow and eradicate poverty and decrease crime if we share the little we have with the less fortunate, especially children who are the future.”
The soldiers headed to celebrate Women’s Day in style at Bundu Country Lodge in White River. It was hosted in honour of female soldiers to appreciate and celebrate their successful contribution to the force and to the country as a whole.
Guests were entertained with songs emphasising the appreciation for women and the role they play, and were dazzled by the performance of the army choir led by Sibusiso Maseko which ignited the hall with liveliness and dancing.
The premises to where donations are given is made up of two establishments, one being the Good Hope Centre and the other being the drop-in centre, both in the same building but with separate entrances.
Good Hope Centre is an approved school day care and the drop-in centre functions and survives solely on donations by Good Samaritans, well- established companies and government.
