Learners to represent province at the African Youth Union

More than 100 delegates from all parts of the African continent are expected to attend the summit.

MSOGWABA – Two grade nine learners of Gedlembane Secondary School have been invited by the African Youth Union (AYU) to render their lyric poems during the organisation’s third summit to be held in Pretoria from Thursday to Friday.

The learners, Khethiwe Shabalala and Phindile Ncongwane, were invited by the AYU’s president Mr Timothy Mugerwa who was impressed with their outstanding performance on June 16 at a celebration organised by members of Msogwaba Library themed “Youth moving back the frontiers of poverty”.

Mugerwa also confirmed his invitation: “It is very true that the learners were invited to the summit. I saw them performing at Msogwaba library during the Youth Day Celebration, I was impressed and thought of giving them a chance to perform on the national stage,” he said.

He said more than 100 delegates from all parts of the African continent are expected to attend the summit.

According to Mr Michael Matsane, the local librarian, the library initially invited Mugerwa to be a guest speaker at the library on June 16. He said the library aimed to transform the lives of the people for the better.

“We have taken a huge step by introducing a variety of programmes geared at addressing the social ills and uncertainties and make the community environment a better place for all,” he said.

The library also hosted a prayer day on October 15 to ask for God’s intervention and divine protection for the learners journey to Pretoria. Speaker after speaker motivated them to present Pienaar and the province well at the summit.
