Hip hop Africa awards premiered

The 2013 BET Hip Hop Awards took place at the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center in Atlanta on Saturday 28 September

The hip hop industry rolled out its biggest guns and turned out in force for the BET Hip Hop Awards at the weekend. Hosted by rap legend Snoop Dogg, the awards featured high energy performances from Kendrick Lamar, 2 Chainz, French Montana, Rick Ross, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Meek Mill, DJ Khaled, Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock and Yo Gotti, among many others.

The 2013 BET Hip Hop Awards took place at the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center in Atlanta on Saturday 28 September and premieres on BET International across Africa on 18 October at 21:00 CAT..

At the annual celebration, now in its eighth year, the BET Hip Hop Awards pays homage to the best in hip hop music, honouring the hip hop legends that have and continue to make hip hop culture a global force, with an unforgettable night of performances, cyphers and artist tributes.

Among the highlights of this year’s show was Kendrick Lamar’s medley that included his hit singles “B—h Don’t Kill My Vibe”, “Swimming Pools (Drank”), “Poetic Justice” and his guest rap on Big Sean’s “Control”, while Snoop took to the stage with Diddy, Rick Ross and French Montana.

Stars walking the red carpet at this year’s awards included Eve, Kevin Hart, Lil’ Momma, Nelly, Diddy, French Montana, Schoolboy Q and Jay Rock, while this year’s highest honour went to 80s rapper MC Lyte, who was presented the prestigious “I Am Hip Hop Award” by Eve. The TV broadcast of the awards will also feature the infamous Hip Hop Awards “Cyphers” as the hottest MCs deliver 16 bars that everyone will be talking about for the rest of the year. Among the cyphers to watch are Lil’ Kim, and the cast of Real Husbands of Hollywood.
