No toilets no vote

“All these years I was voting as they said, our voice will be heard. What were they talking about?

Bushbuckridge – Some local residents are threatening to boycott taking part in the national general elections next year, as they indicated that they don’t see any progress when it comes to improving service delivery in the area, especially on sanitation.

Speaking to this reporter, the residents voiced out different views as Ms Elizabeth Mnisi said: “All these years I was voting as they said, our voice will be heard. What were they talking about ? “Angi votelanga kutsi njalo uma ngifuna kutitfuma kufanele ngimele”.

Since I don’t have a toilet. It’s like we are living in hell. Our municipality is not helping us. We are struggling to get water in our yard and we don’t see a need to vote because to us it seems like we are used as a tool to push people into high position.

“They are promising as heaven and earth all the time, we are fed up. What angers us even more is that we were promised to get toilets, but nothing happened. We claimed that we are living in a democracy. We are forced as women, to put our lives in danger and use our nearby bushes since they left us without toilets. We are fed up of these politicians, “ she said.
