BARBERTON – The provincial department of agriculture and rural development is committed to teach citizens about the importance of animal conservation.
This was revealed during the recent official launch of the Primary Animal Health Care program at Emjindini Stadium.
Speaking to this publication, Dr Nomfundo Mnisi, who’s the director in animal health in the department, said during the spay campaign, they are going to visit different municipalities in the province.
”With this program, we are aiming to reach out in all municipalities in Mpumalanga to teach more about animal conservation. For an example, it’s very rare to find people taking care of a dog. We must learn to treat animals as human beings. If animals are sick, they must be taken to doctors,“ she said.
“So far, we have visited other local municipalities within the Ehlanzeni district such as Nkomazi Local Municipality and Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, that’s where we found out that taking care of animals like dogs in our communities is still a very big challenge,“ she explained.
During the launch of the program, the department also opened three primary animal health care mobile clinics.
