MBOMBELA – Exercising is good because it keeps a person fit and healthy, but to Mr John Mashaba (61) from Mkhuhlu under Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, who’s one of the fire fighters, it is more than that as he’s committed to work for citizens of the province.
Mashaba indicated that working as a fire fighter played a significant role as for most people it is very difficult to run 2,4 km, but to stay healthy and ensuring that his body doesn’t affect him to respond fast in times of emergency every morning, he’s running 2,4 km as he explained.
“I will contract many diseases if I get lazy and I’m scared to compete with other fire fighters. I can even do 100 push ups within two minutes and transport fire fighters and work equipment to different places across the province ,” said Mashaba.
This publication learnt that he started running since he was a child and since he joined WOF in 2010.
He is excelling in his job every day. “Working on fire really made a difference in my fitness because they don’t isolate me when I want to exercise with fire fighters in the Base, even fire fighters they do respect me and they know very well that they cannot compete with me in the 2,4 km distance,” he said.
