Five foreign nationals arrested in connection with Pienaar protests

The police followed the information which led to the arrest of the foreigners believed to be from Somalia and Ethiopia.

NELSPRUIT- Five foreign nationals aged between 25 and 45 years were arrested in connection with allegations unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

Their arrest follows a sting operation initiated by the police in Pienaar after receiving information about foreign nationals who were firing shots at people who were protesting, vandalising and looting their shops.

The police followed the information which led to the arrest of the foreigners believed to be from Somalia and Ethiopia. They were arrested from their shops at Gudl’umgwenya Shopping Complex at Lihawu Trust in Pienaar.

“Police searched them and managed to recover nine Norinco 9mm pistols, a large number of ammunition and the villains were busted on the spot,” explained Col Leonard Hlathi spokesperson for the police.

The suspects will appear before the Kabokweni Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, March 5.
