COPE applauds conviction of dangerous criminal

The conviction meant the man might be permanently removed from society so that the people of the country can live in harmony without him.

MBOMBELA – The Congress Of The People(COPE ) has congratulated the provincial police for securing a conviction of a serial rapist, killer and kidnapper.

According to the provincial police spokesman, Colonel Leonard Hlathi the 33-year-old man faced nearly 30 cases of rape, over 20 of kidnapping, six of robbery, one of attempted rape as well as a murder case.

On Tuesday he was convicted of 48 of the above charges most of which were rapes and he is scheduled to be sentenced during early April.

“As COPE we commend the police and the State for securing the conviction of one of the most dangerous men in our societies. It could not be that our sisters, mothers and children had to suffer life-long traumas as a result of this man’s horrible acts,” said COPE’s Mpumalanga premier candidate, Mr Sizile Ndlovu this morning

He said the conviction meant the man might be permanently removed from society so that the people of the country can live in harmony without him.

Ndlovu said that the safety of South Africans who always suffer in the hands of ruthless criminals is one of the most important factors that are expected for a better future for all.
