PIENAAR – The local police have opened a murder inquest following the discovery of a woman who was supposedly killed by her Mozambican boyfriend who then allegedly committed suicide.
This happened at Gobhoza where the victim lived with her children and the new boyfriend. Their relationship is estimated to have been about five months old.
According to police spokes-person, Sgt Jabu Ndubane, the victim’s children knocked on their mother’s bedroom door and when she did not open, they went to call a neighbour.
The neighbour broke the bedroom window enabling the victim’s elder child to gain entrance and he then made the gruesome discovery.
Police were called to the scene.
“The body of the 32-year-old woman was found lying on the bed face down with an injury to the back of her left ear.
A hammer was found next to the bed and the body of the man was found hanging from the rafters,” she said.
In a second incident, relatives of a 49-year-old man were shocked to find his half naked body in a decomposing state at his house at Etingulubeni near Nkambule’s stores.
“His underwear were found beneath his buttocks and he had gaping wounds to both his legs,” said Ndubane.
“At the moment we cannot say whether he was sexually abused or not before the killing,” she said.
Police investigations are continuing.
Ndubane also invited members of the community to a crime-awareness campaign on Saturday at the Msogwaba Community Hall from 10:00.
“We aim to teach the people how they can protect themselves from falling victim to crime as we want to make our area a crime-free zone,” she said.
