Soldiers assist family

OSHOEK – Members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) in the province vowed they would ensure that the legacy of Nelson Mandela lived forever by committing themselves to protecting the country and making a difference to other people’s lives.
This was proved when members paid a surprise visit to the impoverished Nkosi family to donate food and blankets.
This came about after one of their members who was patrolling the border noticed the family’s struggle as the children always asked for food.
The communication officer of Joint Tactical headquarters Mr Siboniso Maseko said, “Lt Mkhuseli Mzileni, patrolling at the border, was moved by the family’s situation.
“He approached our commander and we agreed to donate money from our own pockets to assist them.”
Ms Nonhlanhla Mazibuko is a widow dependent on handouts of food from the soldiers at the border post.
She had this to say after receiving the food parcel and blankets, “I’m very happy for what the soldiers have done for my family.
“I never thought that one of them would do something like this for my family.”
