Police-robbers shoot out claims suspect’s life

The police retaliated when robbers started shooting at them, killing on of the suspects.

PIENAAR –  A shoot-out which ensued between the police and robbers during a robbery yesterday, resulted in one of the suspects being fatally wounded.

According to the police, the incident occurred when police responded to a complaint of business robbery in progress at a tuck shop in Gedlembane area .

“When the police approached the tuck shop, they came across five men who opened fire at them and they were compelled to retaliate. As a result, one suspect in his 20s was fatally wounded and the other four managed to flee the scene with undisclosed amount of cash, airtime vouchers and cigarettes,” stated communications directorate, Brig Selvy Mohlala.

Mohlala also confirmed that a  loaded 9mm pistol was recovered from the deceased and it will be sent for ballistic testing to determine if it had been used in the commission of any crime.

“A manhunt for the remaining suspects has been launched and the police urge any person with information that could lead to their arrest to contact Captain Thuli Langa 013 794 9402,” concludes Mohlala.
