
MBOMBELA- The latest utterances by the Anglican archbishop emeritus Desmond Tutu on his support of assisted suicide for the terminally ill which is also referred to as mercy killing or euthanasia had evoked mixed feelings amongst the public arena.
The bishop recently made news headlines after being quoted in Britain’s Observer newspaper explaining that he had been convinced by the case of Craig Schonegevel, a 28-year-old South African who suffered from neurofibromatosis and ended up killing himself because doctors were unable to end his life was fair.
Research shows that this kind of death happens when someone causes death to another individual based on the belief that death would be good for the victim often after a prolonged sickness.
