EMBONISWENI – Furious community members who feel they can no longer cope with corrupt water-tanker drivers who are selling the water instead of distributing it free of charge, are accusing the Mbombela Local Municipality of dragging its feet about the issue.
Residents said they felt mislead by their leaders who only showed interest in the problem before the national general elections, but now that they were back in power, they did not take it seriously anymore.
“We are being used. Now they have forgotten about us but we voted for them. The drivers are turning the system into a business as they want bribes.
This is totally unacceptable. Seriously, they can’t play games with us. How can they expect us to live like this,” asked Mr Sambulo Mabilane, one of the concerned residents.
He added that it was not the first time they had complained about the problem as it had started last year.
“We have informed the municipality, but we don’t see any progress. We don’t want to be harsh by barricading roads, but we will burn tyres as we have no choice because it’s the only language that our leaders understand. With due respect, we want the newly appointed mayor, Cllr Sibusiso Mathonsi to come and witness our struggle to get water, maybe he will be able to come up with plan B,” added Mabilane.
“Ngalesikhatsi bafuna mavoti etfu, bebakwati kuto fika lasihlala khona, nyalo sebakwati kusitjela kutsi lasihlala khona kusentsabeni kuyakhuphukela, indzaba lamavoti etfu bebangasho kutsi ayakhuphukela.
