WHITE RIVER- Sacrifice, determination and hard work have seen a local designer and dressmaker celebrate 20 years of being self-employed and creating job opportunities for others as well.
Past Doris Mlangeni who is also married to a man of God, Ps Ezekile Mlangeni, started her dressmaking business in a small garage at their home, but as time passed by she went from strength to strength and even opened a bridal boutique in town. She created permanent jobs for six employees.
She says her success in business comes from being focused and giving full attention to what she does.
She encouraged other women who are running small businesses never to lose hope but to keep on pushing.
“Patience is the mother of success and it is important for a business person to develop and acquire more skills relevant to her passion rather than trying to be a jack of all trades.
“It doesn’t work like that, one may end up losing everything,” she said.
On Sundays she and her husband preach and pray for the different kinds of requests in their church. They also have time to visit the members who have needs at their homes.
Her recipe to a successful and flourishing life is through giving in order to receive from God. She quoted Mark 12: 41-44, about the widow who gave her best.
Her next move in years to come will be to establish a centre for street kids and sex workers where they will receive shelter, love, counselling and be empowered to start their own businesses.
