MATSULU – As the nation is celebrating Heritage Month, the gorgeous and creative Ms Khombisile Malambe is showcasing her well-designed traditional outfits. under her developing company. Makhombise punu.
The fashionable lady was born in 1993 and her love for sewing and design started during her primary school days where she had sewing lessons.
She was one of the best students and knew that sewing would shape her future. At the age of 16, she decided she wanted to be a designer.
During her interview with Mpumalanga News she said, “My love for fashion started at a very young age through seeing my mother make a good living out of sewing. She is tailor and I used to sit and watch her sew beautiful blankets and wedding dresses.”
Malambe uses unusual fabric to make her clothes.
“I love seeing people wearing my clothes. I get so excited. It makes me smile to see them wearing my clothes to a party or event. That’s when you know you’re doing something good,” said the talented designer.
She has also found that using her hands to sew her clothes is the most affordable way of exercising them.
Malambe stated her ambition was to sell her traditional outfits to locals and tourists as that would be a way of boosting the economy of the province. She urged people to support local upcoming designers.
She concluded,
“Heritage Month gives us a significant opportunity to celebrate the culture and contributions to the country. I am proud to be a part of a city that thrives on diversity and takes the time to recognise this strength in special ways like this.”
