Department celebrates Transport Month by giving back

Transport month has hit us, and the Department is not relaxed about it. It plans to give bicycles to a number of people within the province in commemoration of the month.

MBOMBELA – The Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport is planning various events in celebration of National Transport Month.

With so many activities lined up all over the province, commuters and public transport practitioners are expected to come out in full numbers and celebrate.

In a statement issued by the department, it has outlined various projects planned for the rest of the month. “We kicked off the activities with the launch on October 7, with the official opening of the P120/1 Road between Kriel and eMalahleni.

The launch was coupled with the donation of bicycles to learners within the Nkangala region later that day,” read the statement.
According to the report, some of the activities lined up are the wheel of service delivery which will take place at Masibekela village in the Nkomazi Municipality on October 14.

This will also see the handover of the access roads and bridge between Sibange and Masibekela village. Part of the proceedings for the day will include the donation of Shova Kalula bicycles to learners at schools in the Nkomazi municipality.

The department will conclude the October Transport Month at Govan Mbeki Municipality in Bethal on October 28, where the MEC Ms Dumisile Nhlengethwa, will board a scholar transport bus, before handing over the Bethal weigh bridge.

Shova Kalula bicycles will also be handed over to schools in the Gert Sibande District Municipality.
