MBOMBELA – The 16 Days of Activism for no Violence Against Women and Children Campaign started on November 25 and will run until December 10.
Various organisations who play a crucial role in fighting abuse against women and children, will reach out to communities to teach them about abuse.
The MEC for community, safety, security and liaison, Mr Vusi Shongwe has urged men in all corners of the province to stand up and restore their dignity by protecting women and children in society.
“It’s about time for men to bring back their dignity in our communities by starting to play a part in this campaign. They must not only do that during this time, but for 365 days just like our premier David Mabuza had earlier requested,” said Shongwe.
“Some of the incidents of abuse are happening behind closed doors and we must not keep quite but rather report this so that the perpetrators are subjected to face the full might of the law,” Shongwe
went on.
Hosting seminars around the province is part of the campaign to give men a platform to express their anger or what had led them to be abusive.
