Municipality warns of bogus employers on the loose

The bogus individuals are targeting the unemployed and vulnerable promising them employment at the municipality.

MBOMBELA – Mbombela Local municipality(MLM) has warned the public about some fraudsters on the loose.

According to MLM the fraudsters claim to be employed by the municipality and some impersonate the municipal employees.

The bogus individuals are targeting the unemployed and vulnerable promising them employment at the municipality.

These fraudsters then demand that some money ranging from an amount of R3 000 to R5 000.00 paid via deposits at the retail shops before such a job can be granted.

“The municipality distances itself from this fraudulent activity and would like to state categorically that such a practice is condemned in the strongest terms.

Victims of such incidents are encouraged to approach the South African Police services for a full criminal investigation.

Citizens are also urged to be vigilant and report any corrupt individual promptly to the police so that such culprits can be apprehended and brought to book,” said Mr. Neo Seanego the municipal manager

Seanego further assured all prospective employees and job seekers that the approved selection and recruitment policy is in place and strictly adhered to.

“Vacancies are advertised, applicants go through a short-listing process and get invited for interviews, prior to employment,” concluded the municipal manager.
