A pedestrian killed and a taxi driver injured on the R40

On the other hand, a taxi driver sustained serious injuries after being hit by a truck on the same road this morning

MBOMBELA – A pedestrian was killed on the R40 road in Mbombela, while a taxi driver sustained serious injuries on the same road this morning.
According to Capt Dawie Pretorius, the first incident happened yesterday around 15:00 whereby pedestrian was hit near Riverside Mall. He said that the vehicle proceeded to hit the newly constructed fence. “The passenger died on the scene,” he said.
On the other hand, a taxi driver sustained serious injuries after being hit by a truck on the same road this morning. According to witnesses, the taxi driver was driving towards Mbombela and had stopped after seeing a burning car on the side of the road to see if the occupants of that vehicle were fine.
“He then decided to stop his taxi to go and access the situation and while approaching the car he was badly hit by the trailer of the truck moving on the same direction,” explained Pretorius.
The man was rushed to hospital and the burnt car was moved from the road.
Pretorius urged road users including pedestrians to be cautious when using the road especially during peak hours.
