Grieving family waits for zombies to return

A local family, who had recently buried two relatives, were left in shock after a young woman who claimed to be a messenger from a “princess”, told them that their dead loved ones were actually alive.

MANYEVENI-This shocking revelation had since divided this family, with some members dismissing it as pure evil lies while others actually believed the message.

This bizarre scene, which attracted the attention of the community and people from far afield, played itself out last Sunday after a young woman delivered the message that the family members were actually not dead, but bewitched and had turned into zombies. She then left.

By midday that Sunday, people came to witness the miraculous return of the two dead relatives. To ensure peace and stability, police were also called in.

According to a family member who spoke to Mpumalanga News, they were shocked and surprised. “This messenger promised the family that she could bring back the two deceased members. But now, we are starting to worry because it is already late and we are starting to realise that the messenger may not come back at all, but we will keep our hopes high,” said a family member.

Mpumalanga News camped at the homestead from dawn but the said messenger never showed up with the deceased.

Seeking for answers in this regard, the paper spoke to the leader of traditional healers, Gogo Phephisile Maseko, who explained that traditionally such incidents where a person could be resurrected
from the dead, depended on their death.

“If you die in unclear circumstances it is important that traditional healers must come to the space and resolve the matter in a traditional way. There are confidential traditional ways to which community leaders and elders within the community have to engage to resolve the matter,” she explained.

She concluded and said it helped the community to welcome those
people and understand the reasons behind their death.

Latest developments suggested that on Monday night the   community gathered at the messenger’s house threatening to kill her, but she was allegedly rescued by police.

The KaBokweni police spokesperson, Lt Shelly Ngomane, stated that they were currently providing security for the messenger and investigating the matter.

“We understand the frustration of the community but we plead with
the public to abstain from taking the law into their own hands. We
will try to help both the families in addressing this matter. We would also like to advise people not to believe anything they hear from strangers, they must be careful.”
