MBOMBELA– The Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen (Adv) Mark Dumisa Magadlela has approved two rewards of over R250 000 in respect of the death of a Traffic Officer and a Police Constable. The two members were killed on separate events in July last year.
The first one, the late Mr Johannes Mahlangu (50), who was a Cost Centre Head, stationed at the Provincial Traffic Department in Middelburg. He was shot and killed on July 4, at his parental home in Vlaklaagte No 2, while reversing his vehicle. After the shooting, he was rushed to a local clinic where he was certified dead on arrival. Two weeks late Const Joseph Hlongwane (36) was fatally shot whilst on duty responding to a business robbery call on July 18.
His assailants were apparently on top of a roof of the shop which was being robbed. Hlongwane was stationed at Vaalbank SAPS near KwaMhlanga where he met his untimely death.“Since the murder of the two officials, no one was arrested hence the rewards of R150 000 for Hlongwane and R100 000 for Mahlangu,” explained Magadlela. Magadlela said the issuing of these rewards will help the police in strengthening their investigations.
“We believe that the community will surely come forth with information that will assist the police to speedily resolve these cases. The approval of these rewards does not mean that the police are doing nothing with an attempt to trace those responsible. There are task teams formed that are currently in place comprising of different role players. We want to unleash all avenues that will assist in the investigations,” he said.
