Facebook post causes raw at the Legislature

MEC Vusi Shongwe takes on EFF leader, Collen Sedibe, over his recent Facebook post.

Drama unfolded at the Legislature yesterday, when Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC, Mr. Vusi Shongwe, expressed his frustration about how EFF leader, Mr Collen Sedibe, has been posting about the Legislature members on Facebook.

According to Shongwe, Sedibe has been posting spiteful content about the members on the social media platform.

“I rise to move a motion without notice, Hon. Sedibe needs to stop talking about us on social media. We are mothers and fathers in our families, he cannot just disrespect us like that. He uses the platform to disrespect us, and I will retaliate, I am not scared of him,” said Shongwe.

He continued to say that he will not let the matter slide, should it continue.

“We are only connected by the nature of the work we do, through the house, either than that, he needs to respect us, he cannot just write such things on Facebook. Like I said, I am not scared of him.”
Sedibe also spoke in his defence, saying Facebook matters are just that, Facebook matters.

“You cannot threaten me, what happens on Facebook must be addressed there,” he said.

The Deputy Speaker of the Legislature, Mr David Dube, weighed in on the matter, clarifying certain facts, with regards to social media, and also asked Shongwe to withdraw his threatening remarks.

“Whatever happens in this house, members are protected and actions will be taken, accordingly. It becomes a different matter when the feuds take place outside this house, then members reserve their right to deal with the feuds, the way they see fit, they can even take legal actions, should there be a need.”

The matter got even more heated when another EFF member, Mr Alfred S’khosana, threatened to take on Shongwe outside.
