MEC Gamede launch planting season

MEC Andries Gamede is expected to make a call to all communities to start all processes related to food production.

ACORNHOEK- The MEC for the department of agriculture, rural development, land and environmental affairs Mr Andries Gamede will today launch the start of this year’s planting season.

The launch will take place this morning at Acornhoek FET College. It will be coupled with the commemoration of the provincial World Food Day.

Gamede is expected to make a call to all communities to start all processes related to food production.

“October had been declared as food security month, with an aim to heighten public awareness on issues to food security, and also to strengthen solidarity in the struggle against hunger, malnutrition and poverty,” explained Gamede.

The World Food Day annually celebrated around world on October 16. It aims to create awareness on issues of global food insecurity. The theme for this year is: “Social Protection and Agriculture: Breaking the Cycle of Rural Poverty”. .
