Mum arrested after toddler found in pit toilet

Police spokesperson, Lt Jabu Ndubane, said the baby girl was retrieved last Friday by brave police members who were called to the scene after neighbours heard her cries coming from a pit toilet in her home.

PIENAAR – A 31-year-old unemployed mother of three has been arrested for trying to kill her infant.

According to Pienaar police spokesperson, Lt Jabu Ndubane, the baby girl was retrieved last Friday by brave police members who were called to the scene after neighbours heard her cries coming from a pit toilet in her home.

“Luckily the baby was still alive. She was rushed to Themba Hospital where she is recovering well,” said Ndubane. Police investigations led to the arrest of the infant’s mother. She was charged with attempted murder and is expected to appear in court today for her bail application.

Ndubane advised women and girls never to dump their unwanted babies but rather to drop them off at hospitals, police stations, churches and even to give them to social workers.
