AKA pulls a no-show in Nkomazi

Nkomazi was left disappointed on Saturday night after a large number of people came out to see AKA perform live and unplugged at Elangeni Lodge.

The rapper, whose real name is Kienaan Forbes, did not pitch for the event for which he was scheduled to perform.

“We still don’t know why AKA did not pitch for his scheduled performance, we are very disappointed. However, we would like to apologize dearly to the people who attended the show because they wanted to see him on stage. We had a meeting with his management yesterday, but no sound reasons were provided to us,” said Zodwa Matsebula, aka DJ Zoe, of Redamancy Lifestyle and Entertainment.

According to Zodwa, everything was arranged prior, including the required payment.

“We arranged for everything he asked for, paid him in full, the hotel, keyboard and car that he required were all in place. But still, he didn’t pitch for the event. What irks us most is the fact that he took to twitter to defame our character and bruise our reputation,” she added.

AKA tweeted and apologized to his fans on Saturday night, he shifted the blame to the organisers of the event.

“Unfortunately I will not be performing in NELSPRUIT tonight. Organizers could not meet the technical requirements for my show. Apologies,” AKA tweeted.

In response to the tweet, DJ Zoe also posted their proof of payment on social media, in an attempt to clear out their reputation.

“On behalf of Redamancy Lifestyle and Entertainment, we would like to apologize to people who showed up on last last night’s event called AKA Live and Unplugged Event which was held at Elangeni Lodge in Nkomazi.

“To answer a lot of questions that you might have, AKA was paid in FULL for this Performance, accommodation and flights for 6. His contract states all the technical sound and production requirements which were all met. We hired TMM events which has the best sound and stage in town.

“However only 2 days away from the Event they were sent AKA ‘s new sound requirements which were not on the original contract signed. This included a piano that was only found in Joburg and costs R10 000 to hire. TMM took the initiative to pay for it and AKA’s agent agreed to bring it on the day of the event.

“The agent NEVER showed up with the piano. This was addressed with his AKA’S manager who agreed that AKA would still perform without the piano at 1am. AKA nor his manager showed up at the Event. None of them came to the venue to do a sound check. Later AKA tweeted that he will not be coming to perform at the event.

“He however, will be Performing at another venue in Nelspruit for Free after we covered all his travelling and accommodation costs,(sic)” she posted.

The question whether the fans will get their refund for the no-show pulled by AKA, still remains unanswered.

“We are going to meet with the relevant stakeholders to discuss the way forward. I can’t comment on whether we are going to sue the artist yet, but I can put it on record that we want him to refund us. It’s such a letdown, and we won’t leave it hanging like that.”

According to Zoe, an employee at the hotel in which AKA was booked confirmed that he did pitch on Saturday, but looked high on drugs and could not work.

“We were told that he did show up, that we do know because we sent a chauffeur to fetch him from the airport. Someone told us
that they saw him and he was allegedly too high to do anything, hence he could not come down to Nkomazi for work,” said Zoe.
