Bush cleaning campaign is on track

“This area is very bushy and should you be attacked nobody will hear your screams."

BARBERTON – Local police, Community Work Programme (CWP) and councillors of Umjindi Local Municipality  put everything aside and dedicate their time to make a difference in the community .

They  embarked in a cleaning campaign where they cleared vegetation and cut down trees in wards 8 and 9 , especially the walkway that goes through the cemetery, which criminals used as a hot spot to rape women.

The spokesperson for the local police, Const Tutu Nkosi said, “We have different activities planned for this month as part of the campaign and this is just the beginning. Cleaning the bushes is part of avoiding incidents such as rape, murder and common robbery.”

Tutu went on to urge community members to walk in groups and never alone, especially in dangerous areas.

“This area is very bushy and should you be attacked nobody will hear your screams.”

Police say overgrown vegetation provides the perfect hiding place for criminals trying to evade the law.
