Taxi community to get assitance staying healthy this festive season

Through Operation Phakamelimpilo the Department of Health aims to provide primary health care at taxi ranks at least once a month.

MALALANE – The Mpumalanga Department of Health plans to intensify its primary healthcare (PHC) services.

“Operation Phakamelimpilo” aims to improve access to PHC services by rolling them out at taxi ranks during the festive season.

The programme has been launched in all three districts of the province.

The purpose is to ensure that taxi drivers, taxi owners, commuters and hawkers at taxi ranks are afforded access to PHC services at least once a month.

The Department of Health has identified them as having limited access to the services where they live due to the services they provide and commuting.

It claims that since the launch a total of 3 871 community members have been reached.

The department’s taking of health services to taxi ranks will be in Ehlanzeni on Friday at the Malelane taxi rank from 09:00.
