Serial rapist behind bars

The suspect is also linked to eight incidents of rape which had occurred on different occasions in 2010.

DAANTJIE – A serial rapist who was giving young women of this area, including Clau Clau, Newcom, and Mamfambisa, sleepless nights since 2010 has finally been arrested.

Mpumalanga News learnt that the arrest of the 23-year-old suspect came after he had raped his sister’s friend at his home. The suspect is also linked to eight incidents of rape which had occurred on different occasions in 2010. This has been confirmed by the DNA tests that have been conducted by forensics in Pretoria.

The suspect was targeting young women whom he lured into the bush. Spokesperson for the police, Lt Jabu Ndubane told this publication that the suspect began his crime spree when he was still very young. “There are eight victims who were called to identify the suspect who allegedly raped them in bushes and they all pointed to him. The DNA results also linked him to the incidents,” she added.

“He did his dirty work in various areas and, when he realised that the community became aware of his actions, he moved to another area,” said Ndubane.

Police are still investigating the incidents and the suspect is expected to appear in court on March 28.
