SAPS visited Mathumbu at his home and found 22 fraudulent IDs, which led to his arrest. Allegedly he targeted foreigners, selling a document for R2 200.

• Buried alive by home affairs

The spokesperson of KaBokweni police, Capt Shirley Ngomane, said there will be more arrests as the investigation is under way. She said Mathumbu’s business might be connected to the Department of Home Affairs.

• Local citizens mistakenly declared a foreign national

“The investigation is still on, but we are expecting more arrests as we want to go deeper and find out whether Mathumbu has a machine to manufacture the IDs and certificates or if he is working with officials within home affairs,” Ngomane said.
